One of things that concerns me about towing a caravan is getting puncture and having to change wheel on busy roadside. Can you get cover so someone will come out and do this in similar way you can for cars. I have breakdown insurance already for car where they will offer roadside assistance for car but would not fix puncture on caravan. They would however tow caravan to wherever should car be unfixable. Thanks. (also posted in repairs section)

Green Flag is the one you want (arrange via the CC if you are a member). Mind you most such companies will only come out and change the wheel (if you have a spare). They will not bring a replacement. If you want that kind of service then you want Tyron Assist for £65 for three years cover...even if you do not Tyron Bands fitted.

RAC Arrival (available through the Camping & Caravanning Club, for members only) will give you all the assistance you would expect from the RAC for your car, but extended to cover your caravan, too.

I am with green flag and got a puncture on first outing. While I am capable of changing the wheel it was a very busy road. green flag arrived in 45minutes and blocked the area with his lorry and changed the wheel in ten while the family sat safely on the pavement.

Thanks for those answers. Got a spare on Eriba. Like you say it's safer to get mechanic to do it. How much is green flag - presume everyone talking about mayday.

the other one which will cover the caravan,is GEM and you don't have to be a member of the c c /ccc.the only downside is it will only cover the caravan for breakdown while towing, but for me and the wife for personal cover it was £80.

when i say it will only cover while towing this does inclued the caravan going wrong.

Looked at GEM cover. Looked good but only seemed to cover UK. Can you upgrade to European cover? Does green flag policy cover Europe?

Had been with AA but they had quoted me £190 on renewal. Since not member of either caravan club, I eventually found a policy with Vehicle Rescue Direct. They will cover caravan (including changing flat tyre on roadside). Price was only £69 for annual Europe-wide vehicle-based cover. Company uses AXA Assistance so seem reliable but guess proof will be in the pudding.

RAC Arrival is ok, BUT recently we had the cylinder head go whilst away on holiday, obviously tow car inoperable, would only recover the car and caravan to one place eg home or garage, would not even drop caravan off somewhere enroute which was a nightmare.  Luckily we knew the owners of the site so we were able to leave the caravan there, even then my mum had to come and get my husband and as much luggage as possible as they were recovering car to garage in bradford and we're in harrogate and they would not drop him off at home to collect his car, so I went in truck with car on back, my poor dogs had to travel in the car on the back of the truck and then my husband had to collect us all from Bradford.  It was not a nice/good day.
