Does your car have a normal spare wheel? I once had a car with no spare (just the gunge and inflator), and Red Pennant told me that, in the event of a puncture and no serviceable spare, there would be a £100 surcharge. The fact that the vehicle is designed without a spare is irrelevant. So we carried a spare in the luggage compartment. Always in the way. Present car does have a properly stowed spare; and this feature is now paramount when buying a vehicle.
Space savers - not a good idea when towing. "Driving me spare" article in Aug 2011 C.C. mag. (page34) is a recommended read.
