Hi
I have a Volvo v50 1.8 & Im getting totally confused. Im looking to use it to collect a caravan that will be going on to a seasonal pitch. It is an Elddis Crusader twin wheel base & Im told the weight is 1275kg. Can someone please help & advise if the car would pull this van? Im getting totally confused & muddled by it all!

Make sure you are towing what your car can legally tow - it doesn't look promising based on the data on those websites.

Sadly it does not even look to be close to being legal.


You need something a lot bigger, heavier and more powerful.

Most of the Crusaders if not all are going to be far too heavy for your car. Can you give more info about the caravan such as model, year etc?

The Volvo is not that heavy and usually the Crusaders need something along the lines of an XC90, Landcruiser, Disco etc.

Ok thanks for your help guys. The Mrs phoned a Volvo dealer & they said it should pull it no problem, shows what they know lol. I got it sorted now & have a very good friend to collect it for me. Hes even going to deliver it to the site for me in two weeks!

Rule number two, never believe a caravan salesman.

Always check the rules out yourself. Your toes would curl if you saw some posts on here in previous years!

When we bought our van, the dealer happily let us tow it away, though he must have known that having the spare wheel in the front locker will have put it way over the noseweight for our non 4X4 car.
Profits rule, innit.
