Hi all, I've just bought a rover 416 and I am wondering if anyone can give any advice on a suitable van for it.
It is a 1996 car, manual and come with the towbar and electrics all ready to go.
I'm looking for a 4 berth van. Definatly an older one because i'm looking at about £500 to spend (obviously during the low season )
I quite like the Ace Globtrotter type of van (can't remember the other names of similar ace 4 berths) of the early/mid 80s
Any suggestions
Can tell you that the max towing weight for the 416 Rover at that age is 1000kg absolute limit so any van you buy must not exceed that figure when loaded .
That van looks like a nightmare, take that out of the vwarehouse in it will pour in, the van tentz suggest looks your better option and will certainly be lighter.
Those Rovers had a lot of problems with cylinder heads. I would recommend putting a switch on the radiator fan so you can run it all the time if you are going to be towing with it.

have to agree on that. well known on most of them.
i wouldnt like to pull a caravan with a little 1.6 esp when loaded up and people in the car, cant see the clutch lasting too long. maybe a nice trailer tent, much less weight i belive and are pretty nice
Just gone back and had a look at the one tentz posted and quite like the look of them. This is probably the route I will go down when the time is right (in other words---when I have the cash)

A wise move as already said Rover had issues with the heads going but that was on the 1.4 the 1.6 is the honda engine which as a rule is pretty much bomb proof, still keep as light as you can it's still only a small engine

Actually, depending on the mrs, the trailer tent option does look promising

If its a 1995 to 1999 416 only the autos came with Honda engine otherwise its a later version of the 1.4 engine and my 416 suffered with head gasket failure .
