Need to replace our car so that we can tow a caravan not heavier than 1300kgs.  Figure this would give us at least some choice of 2 berth caravans.  Would like an automatic as at present we drive an Astra 1.6 easytronic 2005.  Budget about £6000.  Any suggestions would be welcome.

I'm a little biased but have owned land rovers for almost 20 years and IMHO they are the safest strongest tow car out there.

We have a Skoda Octavia 4.4 1.9 TDi estate, 85% is 1360kg. The 4x4 has a slightly higher towing limit than a normal one. We tow a 1998 4 berth Compass Kensington at 1160kg MTPLM so you should be able to find more than the odd 2 berth that you are able to tow.

almost any 1.9 tdi would be good. Mondeo or volkswagon passat/skoda octavia are very good.

Skoda Octavia with dsg gear box full auto or play with the gears

Or for full comfort the Skoda superb 1.9 tdi 130 bhp excellent on fuel

Many thankd for all your reples.   After looking at replies and some mags, OH seems to prefer Mondeo but I am more in favour of the Skoda.   I am looking around for prices etc.  Would like to tow a 4 berth next year so I can then take my grnadson who will be two with us.  My daughter does not like caravanning and thinks we are mad but is happy to let us take grandson.  Don't know why she doesn't like caravanning as we used to go camping and caravanning when she was a child and she loved it.  Now she says haven't I heard of 5 star hotels.  If only we could afford them!
