Hi, we started camping this year and bought an Erde 122 trailer. However it bounces along the road behind the car at what ever speed I travel at which I assume is down to the size of the wheels which are 8".
I intend to sell it and buy a slightly bigger trailer but would like to know if I am going to have the same bouncing problem with a trailer that has 10" wheels or should I just go for 13" wheels. I am a bit restricted on weight as towing with a Renault Grand Modus DCI.
Any advice please...

Hi
Not sure this helps any but before I moved to caravans I had a trailer tent which wieghed around 600kg fully loaded. It was around 8ft long and had 12 inch wheels. I towed perfectly until I hit a pot hole or slight bump in the road, then it would start to bouce....
Only way I could stop it boucing was to slow right down to around 30mph and then speed up again once it settled.
You can tow at least 750Kg with most cars so I woudl think that you should be able to with the Modus.
Cheers
Richard

They only have small rubber blocks for suspension and no shock absorbers so they will bounce especially when empty.
Only way to remedy that is to get something heavier with better suspension with shock absorbers.

a lot trailers around , if there is not enough weight in them , a trailer i use for work bounces all over the places with just a few tools in , but load it up with some concrete blocks ,and its as smooth as a roller

I fijnd I have to keep the trailer tyres quite low on pressure, especially for my boat trailers because I don't like crashing along with a classic wooden hull. I tend to stick to keep to about 25psi which sounds low, but so long as they look OK I find it works.
The other trick I found by accident with our camping trailer is that if I keep the weight more towards the back it stops it bouncing as much. Goes against previous theory, but hey ho, it works.

They should be 36.2 (Erde website).

I had a similar problem with my erde & found that putting a bit more weight in front of the axle helped. ( I put my tent just in front of the axle instead of over it ) It is a wight issue & you need more ballast. it worked for me :)

Does it have shock absorbers? If not you may be able to upgrade the trailer and have them fitted.
Good luck.

We had an Erde 102, tiny little thing. Empty it would bounce around a bit. But filled it was pretty steady, never really noticed it was there.
So I'd say, get the thing filled and weighed down, I tried to even out the weight front to back and side to side and that seemed to work for me.
