Hi
We are new to caravaning & have an oldish Eldiss Hurricane xl - 2 birth. We have a Citreon Xara Picasso 1.6. Can anyone tell me if this will pull the van ok. We have tried to study the books etc but not sure & don't want to have the tow bar fitted if we have to change our car?

The Picasso should be fine , a bit wheezy if you don`t change down early on the hills but otherwise heavy enough to cope with a Hurricane`s weight .

It also makes a difference whether it's a diesel engine or not. I tow with a Ford Focus 1.6 diesel but I know for sure that the petrol version wouldn't be up to the job.

From a very quick google...

Kerb weight of the car is 1245 kg

Gross wight is 1795 kg

Max towing weight (braked)      1300 kg

So to stick within the 85% rule the van fully laden should be 1058.25kg

Based on the fact that i very breifly had a 1993 elddis wisp 450eb 5 bearth which weighed in fully laden at 1030kg i would say you are probably about spot on weight wise !

As said though, a 1.6 petrol would be abit gutless !

Unless its an early Xara model with a MAXIMUM loaded towing weight of 900kg.
