At a recent site we wanted to leave our caravan for two days unattended on the pitch.

The advice we were given was to disconnect our electricity and connect the gas instead to keep our fridge/freezer cold.

Also not to switch our alarm on (despite it being linked to our tracker), wouldn't this make our insurance invalid?

I can't see any issue with leaving the electric cable connected and there is no more risk than leaving your gas turned on. Of course the best way would be to turn both off but as you have said you need to run your fridge while you are out. Plus you pay for the electric so why waste your gas

It was for their convenience, not yours, ie don't use their electricity & switch off alarm in case it went off. I don't see why you even needed to tell them you wern't going to be there, what is it to do with them anyway if you had paid for the pitch?

I believe a condition of use of a lot of sites is that they are not left unocupied overnigt without notifying the site warden - certain the caravan club have this in trheir booking conditions

there are a number of the C&CC sites that will not allow you to leave a caravan unoccupied overnight due to potential flood risks.
