Just picked up a new car for the OH, and she had decided she wanted the A6 2.7TDI Le Mans Auto.  Awesome car to drive.

When we viewed the car, we found it had a Westfalia detachable towbar on.  Just wondered if anyone had towed with the 2.7Tdi Auto and what their opinions are.

It has loads more power than the other car we tow with BMW 320d, so would think it would cope with it no problem

They use the same parts but the skoda ones are cheaper they could even take it to VW or Seat and save on servicing

What the more honestly rehandled single issue poster & former helpmybob is trying to say is...that vehicles in the VAG group share common parts. The same part from a Skoda dealer will be cheaper than Audi dealer. Similar example of that is that older Ford Galaxy was same car, different badge as VW Sharan & parts for Galaxy bought from Ford parts dept were in fact VW parts but much cheaper than identical parts from VW parts dept.

I would doubt tho that the Audi A6 shares many common parts with any Skoda tho.

They do indeed share parts BUT when I last swapped cars I had a good look around the latest superb and recognised many parts from an Audi I owned in 2003! eg switchgear. It really put me off - ultimately I stuck with Audi - the quoted figures for servicing were also much the same and overall the deal was better anyway.
On the original topic the le Mans A6 2.7tdi auto will tow well IMHO, my A6 is only the 2.0tdi 170 but it pulls the Pegasus well and returns 30mpg towing - so far.

Sorry not a lovely 2.7 but we had a 2.0 tdi avant sline 140bhp. No shortage of power and weights were about right for our Pegasus 546 but it wasnt  a very stable combo. I dont know  if it was because the car was so low but it wasnt a great tow car for us. We have  traded it in now as it had so many little but expensive things looming, nearly all engine related. On the whole though a car i am glad that i once   owned.

I've a 2.7TDi manual...tows a Coachman VIP (a pretty heavy van) with ease & turns in around 30mpg.

Thanks AndyN, that gives me a bit more confidence :-).  We have a Swift Charisma 555, weighing about 1450kg, so not too heavy.

Will be our first time towing with an Auto, but regularly on here I have read posts of people saying that they much prefer it.  If I can got 30mpg, that's about the same as the BM when towing.

Cheers
