There is not a problem finding a car to tow 1330kg on a B licence, the problems come when you try to exceed 1500kg.

For a licence dated 1997 or later you must add together the plated max weight of the caravan and trailer, if the total is 3500 or less you can tow it. You may even tow a caravan with a MAM greater than the cars unladen mass the restriction was removed in 2013

Upgrading the licence to B+E would be a one off cost and will last for as long as you retain the B licence so it is worth considering

Fair point, it was getting a 90kg nose weight limit within the equation that was the sticking point.

A car transporter is usually 3.5t max gross weight with cargo so I'll be fine.

There are bigger ones that are 7.5t but the transit types with beaver tales are OK for me to drive.

Then remember that a car transporter will be regarded by Vosa as a Commercial vehicle and will be subject to slightly different rules. Wouls a transit car transporter have a kerbweight that is less than 1800KG?

This towing lark etc really is a mind field and so easy to caught out doing it wrong, been lots of good advice

Car transporter will be rented from either a recovery company or a hire firm so either way it's all legit.

If I buy one then yes there are stricter rules for the MOT for instance and if it's a very old truck then it will have to avoid low emission zones otherwise a hefty fine, fortunately most of the circuits are in rural areas so emission zones shouldn't be a problem.

It certainly is a mindfield!

Another point is that on a B licience you can also tow a 750kg trailer on top of your 3500GVW so you could put your spare wheels & spares in there to 'spread the weight'.

Not strictly correct

VOSA have stated that a nominal prize does not count as being for hire or reward

Defining nominal might be an issue
