you don't need to do the bus tour   york is quite small and easily toured  - from railway museum (free) to the minster is less than a 15 min walk      the walls walk is good for kids too    there is a park and ride too   so dead easy cos parking is uugghh

Mind you if its going to be a good summer and you want an all over tan www.whiteroseclub.com between York and Flaxton, you can go as a day visitor or even book the van in for a few days if they have room, or use it as a base

Thats what we do and its only £18 a night
