At long last it's time to say bye to the Disco. Running that and the Smart car is proving expensive.
We have a test drive in a Juke tomorrow, with the intention of replacing both cars with one. On paper it's capable of pulling our van, plus it's 4X4, but, it doesn't look up to the job, or am I bring spoilt by the disco?
Any thoughts please?

Braked towing weight and kerbweight of a juke could be nearly half what a landrover weighs.

4WD drive Tekna has lots of power but a legal limit od 1150kg.

Doesnt really compare to a discovery with a towing limit of 3500kg and a kerbweight of 2100kg+

Depends what your going to be towing with it. Is 1150 - 1250kg gross towing weight enough?

And at the higher end of that your close to 100% match.

Fuel consumption of the 4WD is terrible. I can get the Juke's stated combined figure when towing.

1230 kg, so it's ok for that. The mpg figures are all over the place. We're trying a diesel tomorrow, but with cost of fuel right now, the petrol is better, but I would rather sacrifice a bit for the slogging power of a diesel!....lol
I'll get back after the test and a chat with the salesman.
Cheers lads.

No the 4x4 towing limit is 1150kg according to the parkers site.

So 1230kg is not OK.

Same figure on the cuddles website also.

Too light. Its really a small hatchback on steroids.

My neighbour got a Juke yesterday and I had a look at it today.
It seems awfully small, has a very small boot and not much room for the rear seat passengers.  Fuel consumption and exhaust emissions are apparently quite poor for a modern car.

If you want a 4x4 go for a Skoda Scout or Octavia 4x4 diesel all the power and economy you will ever  need.

Both run in 2wd  and if the going gets tough the 4x4 kicks in without you noticing

All the emergency services now use them

www.whattowcar.com  this site may be of help to you, but with our lightweight Lunar with a max weight of 1150kg the petrol engined Juke is not a good match, you may be ok towing on flat ground in good conditions, but i think you would struggle going uphill and in headwinds. The diesel model does fair better, but still only with a caravan with a max laden weight of 1150kg.

Im not a fan of Kia 4x4s having owned one in the past and had a fair few problems with it, but im sure there must be better choices out there which fit your requirements better than the Juke, which probably relies a lot on its cheeky stylish looks for sales rather than what is actually under its bonnet. Its what has been refered to in the past as an Hairdresser's 4x4, catchy looks and make up, but not much else!

Ha ha ha that made me chuckle, my hairdresser has got one in black!

Back to the OP would the Qashqua not be a better towcar?

I was way off!
I thought they were all 4 wheel drive, but that's only the 1600 petrol.
We tried the diesel, kerb weight 1285! So although we won't have the 85% figure, we won't be 100 either.
We're having a bit more thought, but as we only use the van for local steam and bike rallies, we'll most probably go for it.
The odd time we do go further afield, we use our little camper.

We looked at the Kia, and the Yeti. Both thirsty compared with the diesel Juke, which should give my wife about 45-50 mpg on her work commute.
Thanks everyone, as always, good friendly advice.

I take it you missed watchdog when they slated the quashi and the Juke, it went along these lines they are as much use as a chocolate fire guard

Thanks for that, I'll see if I can find the report.
16 week waiting list for the diesel, but you can have any of the petrol models tomorrow!
We're certainly becoming a nation of diesel lovers!

Have you looked at the Mitsubishi ASX? 45 round town, 50+ on a long run, and an average of 37-38 towing the caravan to Italy and back. Towing limit 1400. Save wheelbase and chassis as an Outlander.

Have you picked up a current Yeti brochure?
The Yeti 1.6tdi SE Greenline or Elegance Greenline, kerb of 1335kgs (tow limit 1400kgs) has an average 61mpg compared to 56mpg of Juke, so Yeti far from 'thirsty'.
With the well spec'd 'Elegance Greenline', you get a lot of car for your money.
