The 'old' Discoverys' aka the Mk1 are prone to the rear floor pan rotting away. Depending on the state of decay, they can be repaired but in the worst cases, unless you can carry out the work yourself, can be prohibitively expensive to fix.
The Mk2 is a better vehicle and is not prone to the floor pan problems of the Mk1's, but........ apparently they received little or no factory applied waxoyl or similar to the underside. Many (new) owners having sourced a decent, straight, mechanically sound second-hand Disco will have it professionally waxoyled (or similar) treated.
The V8 engine badged as a 4.0L can suffer from water loss through the piston cylinders. Some engines have been modified to accept 'top hat' liners that eliminate this problem.
The Td5 is a solid diesel engine but there have been problems with oil seepage along part of the wiring loom that eventually ruins an ecu? requiring a new component. There is, I believe, an aftermarket mod that you can buy to prevent this from occuring.
Those models with rear air suspension can suffer from leaking air bags and/or intermittent faults with the air compressor but heh!, these vehicles are now between 8 and 14 years old so items do wear.
