Just reviving this thread as I am also now looking at an Octavia 2.0 TDI PD DSG Estate (2007) as a potential towcar. We currently tow 1150kg, but are intending to move to something bigger next year (around the 1300kg mark).
The weights etc. seem to be fine for our intended use, but I was wondering how stable it is with a van on the back.

I have the 1.9 TD PDI DSG, as posted earlier, perfect tow.
As a personal technique, especially with slightly heavier 'van, I find my engine is spinning happily at slightly higher revs if I select "S" mode on the DSG.
