I have recently been allocated a 52 plate Ford Focus 1.8 TDI Zetec as my company car. My current outfit is a Lunar delta twin 500-4 and a Toyota Hilux Surf. I am selling both and going to buy a new caravan which the focus can cope with. Apparently the maximum permissable tow weight is 1200kg. I am confused by MRO, MTPLM, etc and am looking for plain English as to what I can tow safely. Could I tow a Bailey Discovery 400 for example? Is there a guideline as to what you realistically need to add to the MRO to calculate the weight of your van with the usual cargo (waste, water containers, TV, awning, etc.). Any help is much appreciated as I don't want to buy too heavy, or be to cautious and compromise on size.

Thanks Al.

That site states a kerbweight of 1195kg and an 85% ratio of 1015kg. Does this mean I can only tow 1015kg or the 1200 maximum tow weight in the handbook?

The car is capable of towing the 1200kg as stated but for safety reasons the recommendation is no more than 85% of the kerbweight. So including items you load in to the van the total weight should be no more than the 85% rule.
