Hi all. Have just taken the plunge and traded in the Octavia for a Hyundai IX35. Gone for the 2 litre diesel, auto. 181bhp, premium. All sounds and looks ok, nice test drive - if somewhat different to the Skoda. Got a removable towball thrown in as they would not budge on the price.
Anyone out there got one? What sort of fuel economy can i expect solo and towing our Quasar (1400kg ) ? Octavia returned between 24 ( last weekend, heading to Sutton on sea ) and 32mpg ( on autoroute through France at a steady 60mph )
As well is two words!
How does a sage know everything about everything? or does he? or does he just think he does?
Remember, if you buy something you bought it, not brought it.
I was interested in the ix35 with the 181bhp engine too, but ruled it out as it was auto only. Also when I was looking they weren't even taking orders for them as they were so behind with the lesser powered models.
Settled on the Yeti 170 TDI Elegance to replace my Octavia vRS.
The Yeti is a great car but I do miss my vRS! Have towed with the Yeti three times, stability and power are on par with the vRS but where it wins hands down is when it comes to sleeping policeman ... was always worried that my vRS(s) would ground on them with the van on, sitting higher this is not a concern with the Yeti.
Enjoy ... will be interested to see how you get on.

The Orion seems alot heavier than my Pageant Bordeaux. did look at the Santa Fe but over the top for my needs. I must admit though it will take alot to better the Honda CRV but we will see.
had the 138bhp manual for 18 month found the back end a little bounce but all in all a fine tow car with plenty of power. Towing bailey indiana 1500kg.
First trip completed, 100 miles round trip Set off on Friday lunch time very windy, infact did not realise how windy it was. Started to think it was a bad move getting rid of the CRV for the iX35. Got to site ok and everybody was complaining about the wind so felt a bit better. Drive back very little wind and it pulled like a dream, just like the CRV, so very happy indeed. Kept the same mirrors and they sit at a better angle than on the CRV. MPG this trip was 30. Roll on next outing.
