Well today they removed the clutch and it was red hot the words of the service dept, down to wear and tear, so thats £711. in the passed this car has had the rear bushed replaced twice, the radio replaced kept cutting out, and new rear tyres at 14000 miles its a 2wd, nothing to do with the tracking according to dealer. So we are now waiting for something else to go wrong with this car. Cant wait to get rid of it.

By red hot I found out that he meant that it was blue (burnt)in one place smaller than a 5 pence piece. I got them to put the cluth in boot and got an independant motor mechanic to look at it, he said that there was nothing wrong with the clutch plate its self, it was the flywheel, when the clutch peddle is applied it pushed the flywheel onto the plate, the pressure had not been applied evenly, and one side of the flywheel was very worn, this was the cause of the slipping.   With this I info went back to dealer spoke to service manager, who said, it was up the the mechanic to decide, and it was wear and tear (the driver in his words) and because of this the dealer had not ever bothered to put in a report to Kia. Wont be going back to them again, Have written to Kia.

when the clutch peddle is applied it pushed the flywheel onto the plate,

other way round as far as i am aware, its the pressure plate that moves, would also have thought the plate would wear first like brake pads do, something fishy somwhere

Sorry, the fingers on the pressure plate are scored unevenly if that makes sence.

I have also.found Kia Custome Service to be quite unhelpful.I think the dealership makes a big difference too.My 08 Sportage failed first MOT last November on front suspension bush £115.Took.car to another dealership last week and they replaced other side bushes free under warranty and replaced rear bushes under warranty too.Wheel bearing failed 3 weeks ago...£165.Kicked up.a bit of fuss with local dealership. They have now told me that Kia will pay and cheque on its way. Also Kia dealership quoted almost £ 200 to replace front brake pads and clean.service rear brakes.Took.it to local garage £80 AND will not affect warranty.Credit crunch...shop around.

We have already had the car serviced and had mot done by local garage, not dealer, spoke to kia uk about warranty and dealer, been told by kia to go to another dealer, any warranty work will be done a dealer, but not the one where we have been going to. We have already had the radio replaced, the bushes on the rear supension twice and rear tyres replaced at 14000 miles, had 4x4 tracking done on a 2wd car, that fixed the tyre problem,(we had to pay the dealer, they said it was towing caused the tyre wear) not fit for purpose was quoted as we bought the car for towing. The dealer well I just might as wall be banging my head against a wall.

Had a Sorento (03) for 8 years, still had its original clutch exhaust etc, only thing I had to do to it apart from new tyres - 25-30,000 miles , was to replace rear brake calipers and had problems with the fuel tank delaminating and blocking the filter !.

Only traded it in as it was struggling to pull my Stealth !

The sorento is a brilliant tow car. It's a pity that Kia customer services don't match up to the quality of their product. See my earlier thread.

I had a problem with an item on my motorcycle which shouldn't have failed (and by researching on the Internet I found many other people had the same problem). I took legal advice (offered free with my house insurance). I was told I could commission a report from an independent engineer. If his report showed the problem was due to an inherent defect when the vehicle was manufactured, I could take them to the Small Claims Court to recover the cost of the repair, the cost of the engineer and my expenses. In the end my threat of doing that (and armed with examples of lots of other people with the same problem) the dealer backed down and I got the repair for free even though the motorcycle was just out of warranty.

I guess you have to decide if it is worth the risk. You may end up even further out of pocket. The trouble with clutches is they do wear (unlike the part that failed on my motorcycle) so you may have a harder time proving an inherent fault. If you have free legal advice as part of your house insurance, through work, etc., then you could ask them for an opinion.
