On our second outing this year I noticed that there was about 2 mill showing of green on the ware indicater handle, question is caravan is 18 months old, we have only had it for 4, other owner have only used the van about 6 times covered about 2000 mile in it, (they are neighbours ) shawley the pads arnt worn down already ? As it has not covered hardly anything. Is this normall or should there be a lot more green showing on handle,as caravan before had a ak1300 hitch head this type is new to me.
if green is showing on the top button when hitched up the pads are ok.if only red shows the pads require changing.side ones,if you hitch up and close the stabiliser handle until resistance is felt.if the arrows on the silver handle are below the red square mark on the red centre the pads are in good condition.if they are above the red square mark this indicates they are worn and the pads need to be changed.
------------- the only silly question is the one you do not ask.
I cant dispute the pads worn = red, however my thoughts are a bit more towards safety. I made enquiries with alko on that same subject when we first got a van with this and ATC fitted with alko
The answer was very very clear.
Green = hitch engaged on ball
Red = hitch NOT engaged DO NOT USE
As yours is halfy halfy Id seek expert advice preferably via a physical examination.
However, years ago before the indicators were fitted once the handle clicked into place, the "is it secure" test was to try and lift it off the tow ball.
What do I need to remove pads, as they come with spares? I know for a fact that my neibours nose weight, on there sportage, they was way over as they did not bother checking anything, could this of worn the pads down quicker than normal?

Al-Ko are right. Green locked on to ball - Red not locked on.
The state of the pads won't register on the green button. It has nothing to do with that.
If your green isn't showing then you may well have the wrong towball on.
Don't go anywhere with the van on the back until you have sorted this. Take you car round to a dealer or tow bar place and get it checked.

It not the button that's fine, it's the indicater on the small handle that's the problem wedge shaped one ????????
Wasn't aware there is an indicator on a small handle. There isn't on mine.
