We changed to a tourer from our folding caravan and we use a 2001 Citroen Xantia 2.0 HDI with the exact same engine as your Picasso. There are no problems whatsoever with regards to the engine - lots of pulling power. However I am no expert on car weights so it would be a good idea to have a look at the Maximum Towing Weight for your car which should be in your owners handbook - or www.parkers.co.uk are a good site for info.
I know from experience that it is always a good idea to be well within the limits as if you tow a caravan that is only just in limit it can make the tow unpredicatable.
Good luck hope this helps - amd sure others will reply with more knowledge than me so you should get some sound advice here.
Cheers Rachel

Hi Rachael, thanks for your help. Have not actually bought the Picasso yet; just wondering how folk find it as a tow car before I commit myself to anything.
I'm not clued up specifically on Picasso's but the 2.0 HDI engine is well regarded by the motoring press . Its got plenty of torque - ideal for towing . In all honesty its probably 1 of the best diesel engines you'll find ( although Ford's TDCI engine is equal) . At a guess I reckon it should tow appx 1250 kg but check for yourself . Check www.whatTowCar.com they do a free outfit matching service
Up until November last year we towed a 990Kg Bailey with a Picasso HDi - it was a great car - never had any problems with it in approx 27 months ownership.
We now have a Skoda Superb 2.5TDi to tow our much heavier Abbey.

Thanks to everyone for their replies. I'm going to stick with my Peugeot Partner 1.9D until at least August, I think, and get my annual trip to France out of it.
We had a Picasso for 18 months and towed a Bailey Pageant Magenta with no trouble at all
The two problems we had were reflection from the dashboard onto the windscreen and the blind spot caused by the double screen pillars gave us a few scary moments. You may not have that problem but I certainly did
Hi Aileen I own a picasso 2.0 hdi and have just bought an old sprite xl caravan and pulled it home from harlech to north wales without any trouble at all. In fact its the best car that I have had. Hope this helps
