Please help us before we go insane! We have a 55 plate Mazda 5 and have recently bought a Conway trailer tent. We thought we would have to buy a whole towbar for the car but upon looking underneath we found part of a Brink towbar but no towball. We have done lots of searching online for information on the Brink toward and whether there was a specific ball but with no joy hubby went to a local towbar supplier who told him she thought that all brink towballs fitted all brink detachable towbars. So we bought one on eBay and the bugger won't fit! All the bits and pieces match up but we just can't get the end of the towball through the fitting to lock it in. Please please please can someone help us? Would there be a specific ball we would need or is it something we have to do to the towbar bit to make the towball fit?

Well the best solution I would think is to contact Brink UK direct by telephone as they should be able to tell you exactly the part number of the detachable towball required. I have tried to check out their website in order to provide a link for you but is currently under construction at the moment which is of no help so if you find a Brink towbar dealer they may just be able to supply you with the head office address or even a contact telephone number.

The Bosal and Witter towbars have a blanking plug that fits in the receiver when you remove the towball so I'm wondering if the Brink one is a similar design. If the plug is removed the towball should just slide in and give a positive clonk when it has engaged properly. It might be worth asking your towbar specialist to check it out for you.

We bought from a dealer so no chance of contacting previous owner we did wonder if we could track them down they might still have it!

We've just measured it and the whole thing is too wide so there must be different balls will have to try and get hold of brink.

There are a few video clips on You tube which show Brink balls, they might help narrow it down.

Call Brink direct they are pretty good up to a point, well after they supplied me with four replacement towballs and receivers in three years as they kept developing play in the receivers.

Is the previous owners name not on the V5C?

Unusual for a garage to put their name on it. Adds another keeper unless they are trying to hide something.

The owners before us had it for a week before deciding they didn't like it and swapped for a vauxhall instead from the same dealer.

Thanks so much for the number that will help massively!

Maybe the previous owner swapped it because they needed the unavailable towball as well. Seems quite feasible.

So whose name was on the log book?

Even if they had it for a week the paperwork should have been sent off by then.

If its the dealers name, They its not unknown for dealers to register troublesome cars to themselves.
Its not as easy to find the previous owner, How many people know you can contact the DVLA to find that out? For a fee of course.
