Hi guys, just wondering here what the santa fe is like as a car and as a tower. At the moment I have an old mondeo and an mot coming up which is going to cost roughly £300. brakes etc, not only that it needs a good service (costing a fortune on petrol). There is an 01 plate sante fe for sale that im interested in. Done all the reviews but would be nice to hear from santa fe owners.
Thanks in advance
Paul

Hi Paul, we have a 2 litre diesel SF, an automatic, bought it pretty much exactly a year ago & we love love love it! It's a 56 reg so the newer model than the one you have in mind. It was a Godsend for our camping trips last summer, the amount we got in the boot was amazing (as it should be, with the size of it!) Having said that, we still need a roofbox & our next trip will also involve a trailer & bike rack, but that's just us, with 3 kids & 3 dogs we don't travel light! Have only towed an empty trailer so far so can't really comment on the towing side of it but I can't envisage any problems, that's what they're built for!

Any questions just ask.

Thanks very much for your reply its much appreciated. I have towed in my mondeo but to be honest I have never been happy towing with it, just feels underpowered (2 litre petrol) The santa fe looks ideal for me with work also (bricklayer). Out of curiosity is there any faults I should look for? just seems cheap for what it is, 2001 model £1700

I can't recall any faults cropping up again & again when I was doing my research before I bought ours. In fact, the deciding factor in my purchase was the brilliant reviews of it everywhere online! But I'm really not a car expert so not the right person to ask. We certainly haven't had any trouble with ours, just had its (our) first MOT & annual service & is fine. Ours is v low mileage though, only had 28,000 when we bought it so cost us considerably more than your price!

I had a manual 53 reg Sante Fe 2.0L Deisel and towed a Lunar Clubman mtplm 1490. The only problem for me was to remember that the Van was on the back.
We go to France every year and on the motorways travelling at 80mph legally I was getting 23mpg.

we paid 2k for a 51 plate 2.0td 4wd diesel, 2 months ago..fabulous car, provided you're not heavy footed, it can be economical too.
check when the injectors were last replaced.

forgot to add, lovely to drive, great to tow with and really comfy too

We had a 2005 auto and it was a good car but it was a bit under-powered for our 1600kg van. OK on the flat but hills were tricky - used to get down to 45 on some motorway hills, pedal to the metal. Compared to our 2009 model we have now, its much bouncier when towing as well.

Otherwise, it is a good, reliable buy...

Not sure if its the same engine but we have a 2.0litre diesel auto hyundai trajet, we absolutely love it, used to tow our 1500kg caravan no problem, even though we don't have the caravan anymore I can't bring myself to get rid of it for a smaller people carrier

Wonderful cars, its our second Hyundai (had the same model before but a petrol) and they both have been great (touch wood)

Always wanted a santa fe but need 7 seats. Just can't afford the new shape one yet.

Good luck.

OP a friend had one but was only towinga  smallish TT, very reliable  but quite thirsty as  abig car obviously. hyundai's are generally pretty sound although bits can appear cheap and plasticky even though they actually do last OK

Assuming you car was around 1700kg or so (they must be at least that I would think) and can tow at least 2000kg (again a 2ltr diesel of this type) surely must be able to you certainly would not be legal towing at 80mph (130kmh to be precise). the rules are quite clear that if you car plus it potential towing weight (regardless of what you are towing) weigh over 3500kg you are limited to the lower speed limits in France

That's the latest model (2010 on) - the older, pre-2006 models were only 115bhp. The 2006-2010 models are 150bhp.

Hi mate,I have a 2005 Santa Fe CRTD 2.0L Diesel,
Bought it 2nd hand from a dealer 3&1/2 years ago with 32,000miles on the clock, Now has 69,000 on clock and i have not had 1 single problem with it...I tow a Coachman VIP 520/4 with no problems.
Was thinking of changing mine later this year for a newer model but because it still fits the bill i've decided to keep it...
Colin
