me and my partner are looking to get a 5th wheel to live in / tour around a bit
whilst looking at a 5th wheel we saw an american travel trailer it is fantastic loads of room all the features all in all a nice bit of kit
the only problem is its got a tow weight of 4400kgs what will be able to tow it with because if i remember correctly a range rover can only tow 3500 kgs and there isnt a lot bigger than a rangey
so HELP any advice is geatly appreciated
thanks in advance
Paul
You'll need something with an appropriate towing capacity to move it, and most of the European ratings that go as high as that will be trucks. Virtually all of the vans are 2000kg towing rating.
One of the reasons you don't see that many of these over here is that we haven't got the vehicle ratings to tow them with.
Most that I have seen on the roads have a USA pickup under them anyway, one of these maybe?
hicould be lots of things .american pickup. a iveco daily . a jap chassis and cab. could even be a down plated over 3.500kg .
you do have o forget the 80%rule sometimes .
a down plated 7ton iveco daily took to 3,500kg gvw keeps the train weight of ten ton .this can be driven on a b+e licence .
a down plated mitsubishi 7.5 tonner keeps the train of 11ton. again this can be driven on a b+e.
but really a mini artic is what you need .i use a 6.3ton mitzy pulling a lynton trailer .been using the trailer 12 yrs now .it was pulled by a vw lt50 .but i changed it 5 yrs ago. best bit of kit i have every had. think there,s some pics on my profile .
thanks for all the advice
in the end we went for the 5th wheel as the dealer has a nice dodge ram for sale as well and hooked up its about 9 feet shorter than the travel trailer and they say 5th wheel is easier to tow
thanks again
