Hi all,
I currently tow with a Kia Sorento (original version). We recently changed our caravan and I am now beginning to consider the next tug too. I am not keen on the new Sorento, from another forum I am on, it is widely reported to be much less stable than the earlier version when towing on the motorway.

I have looked at specifications (weight, power, torque, etc) and plotted them in a spread sheet, and I am amazed to find that the Citroen C-Crosser scores very well indeed. I have researched the vehicle and understand that it is based on the Mitsubishi Outlander, but with an improved 2.2 Peugeot/Citroen Engine.

My question is; does anyone on here tow with one? My Caravan is a large twin axel, weighing in at 1890Kg full laden, and I wonder of anyone else has a C-Crosser and can comment on it please?

I haven't got a C-Crosser but I'm pretty sure that when I looked at them they had a kerbweight around 1750kg so they would be too light for your caravan.

Thanks for the replies,

I am aware that the 85% guide will be broken, however with a good solid 4X4 and modern traction control systems, coupled with a twin axel trailer and 23 years towing experience, I have no concerns about that element.

Indeed I have towed over 3000Kg with the Kia with no issues at all, well within it’s 3500Kg max tow but way over the 85% guide.

I’m more interested in it’s suspension stability and tugging power. With a torque rating of 280Lb/F I expect it to be good.

I used to have a Peugeot 4007 (the other member of the clones) & at the time I thought it a great (if thirsty) tow car. Before that my experience was Renault Scenic 1.9 Dci, Honda Civic 2.2CDTi & Zafira 150 CDTi 150 hp.

Compared to those it was a great towcar with great stability & any weather / surface traction. However I was only towing a 1480 kg van, nothing like your one. The suspension was quite firm (good for towing), however I couldn't use 6th gear as much as I expected to & to me the clutch would only just cope with my van so may not be man enough for such a heavy van as your's. To me a van like that needs a much heavier car, you are well over 100% let alone 85%.

The suspension happily put up with 100 kg nose weight, a full boot & three bikes on the roof.

The car has a high payload as it is designed as a 7 seater so as there are 3 of us we had plenty of space for luggage.

Interestingly I now have a Mondeo 2.0 TDCi & with replacement MAD assister springs at the back, I find it a better towcar than the Peugeot with better damping & I am still running with 90kg nose weight.

I was going to say 3500kg is lot for a Kia but i assume you have an older car which is higher than the new ones

Zafiral,

Many thanks for the useful feedback. The Sorento is a very tough act to follow, It also has a max tow-ball weight of 130Kg, which is well suited to the Coachman, which is running at 120Kg.

I really appreciate your comments thanks.

I suspect I will be buying a newer Mk1 Sorento. It's just that the specs for the C-Crosser read good, but that doesn't always define the end result...

Mr Muffin,

You're quite right, I have a Mk1 Facelift Sorento, the max tow was uprated with the extra BHP and Torque from 2800Kg to 3500Kg for the facelift Mk1.

The Mk2 is much lower...
