 What tyre pressures do I need ?

I have Mondeo 2.0 tdci with 235/45/R17 tyres. In the Ford book it states in psi

Normal Load 35 front  32 rear

Full load   36 front  41 rear

Also when towing it says to increase thr rear tyre pressures by 3 psi above specification.

In the car will be myself, wife, and German sheperd. So what presssure loading do I refer to Normal or Full

I run mine at 36 front 37 rear when towing a quite full car. I have the 18" wheels which have the same pressure values on the info plate.

I wouldn't go above 41psi even with a full load & towing.

However over winter I was running 16" wheels with winter tyres & then if I didn't pump the tyres unto 40psi then it felt soft. I don't know if the difference was due to the higher profile tyres or that winter tyres have a softer sidewall.

One way to sort this out is to use what is known to many as the "4psi Rule" (try Googling it).   Basically, the difference between cold and hot tyre pressures (after running for about an hour) should be about 4psi.   If the difference is less than 4psi, then you can let a bit of air out. If it is more than 4psi, then you should put some in.

This works with any vehicle or trailer and with any kind of tyre.

With just two adults in the car I put 35 in the rear (32+3) when towing. However I will probably put a couple more in when I load the car up with awning, table and chairs when I go to France .

I've got the 18" low profiles on mine and I put them at the handbook spec and it tows like a dream, horrible bumpy ride though on some of our lovely roads.

daverk.........pressure for full load is 36F 41R. I run mine when towing with 36F 42R, Runs perfect, you might get a bit of wheel spin on loose stuff........so......go by the book.
