Were off to Cornwall for the first time in 6yrs shortly, the last time we went we had a great run no stop's or hold ups till we got to Newquay then it took 3hrs to do 8 miles. It turned out roadworks were in place as a new 2 lane raod was been built. Does anyone know of any roadworks down there or on the way, was thinking of setting off around 7 and going m6-m5-a30, any thoughts?

Impossible to say, I believe there are roadworks at M4 and M5 interchange but check RAC type websites for more info.

Just one accident and you could sit there for hours.

Travel overnight for the best chance of a smooth drive.

Yes major upgrades at the M4/M5 interchange, 50mph and average speed cameras. To be honest it does seem to keep it moving though rather than elsewhere on the M5 where it can be stop start. Is that 7pm or 7am you are starting off at. If it is 7pm then you should find the roads get quieter and you will have few/if any hold ups (baring any accidents up ahead of course).

I find the Traffic England site very useful. If you click on 'motorway traffic flow' on the right hand side you can enter the motorway and junctions you are travelling on and see how the flow is and any problems or road works. You can put both motorways in at the same time too.
