You ned to check your V5 for the Mass in service of the car which must be more than 1045kg, if it is not then your are stuffed. If it is then you need to consider the rest of this message. Then you need to find the vin plate on the car ( usually under the bonnet or on one of the door pillars ) and check the weights. The top weight is the maximum Gross vehicle weight the second number is the maximum train weight. Now you need to add the 1045kg to the Maximum gross vehicle weight and if that is less than 3500kg then you are fine just as long as when you when off the sum of the cars actual weight and the caravans actual weights is less than the maximum train weight. It is a lot easier than it sounds.

For a licence dated 1997 or later you must add together the plated max weight of the caravan and trailer, if the total is 3500 or less you can tow it. You may even tow a caravan with a MAM greater than the cars unladen mass the restriction was removed in 2013
