The route from Bourton on the Water down to the M5 is on easy but not fast roads. Simply follow signs for Gloucester & you'll have to go to the M5. If you need fuel or shopping on your way to Exeter, there's a big new Tesco store just off the roundabout as you head towards J11A of the M5.
As you come down over Air Balloon hill on the A417, you go under the A46 roundabout, remain in the nearside lane to go M5 Southbound. This will take you up to a roundabout to take you onto the M5 from its 2nd Exit.
However, if you want to get to the Tesco, take the first exit on this roundabout, go under a bridge to a roundabout, first exit & Tesco is then visible on the left. First exit off the next roundabout into the Car park & filling station. Reverse the process to go back out to the M5. The store is in a Trading estate environment so there tends to be much less traffic than most Stores & it's less than minute drive off the A417.
