We had the catalytic converter taken from our truck last Saturday night, only takes them barely a minute. I was wondering if anyone had any views on cat. converter guards before we invest in having one fitted. At the moment got a"Catloc" in mind. The police will give us the marking kit so they can be traced through scrap yards but this does not prevent it being stolen in the first place.
It's a Toyota Hilux Invincible. Apparently the latest versions have been made so that the cat. converter is very difficult to remove, ours is 3 years old and not to that design.
My mate had his taken from an L200 parked outside his house recently, his insurers made him go through a recognised repairer & the had his truck over three weeks.
It takes less than a minute to cut the pipe either side of the cat. converter, with a pipe cutter, drop it down and away. Quick and silent, they do it in car parks regularly. The idea of the "Catloc" is to make the process of removal harder and time consuming. Hopefully the perps. would move on to an easier target.
My mates cat was cut out of the exhaust system, they must use something like a plumbers pipe cutter because he told me the cut was very clean.
He was annoyed because his insurers wanted an approved repairer to replace the thing. They collected his truck leaving him with a car which he had for over three weeks while they exhaust was sorted out.
Crikey 3 weeks? it really is just a case of ordering the exhaust and fitting it, and they can be obtained next day, The annoying thing is that on a lot of diesels it looks like a 'cat' but its a 'soot arrestor' so worthless, its the inconvenience thats the pain in the butt.
