I have a 2.2 manual and tow at 1500kg, it is very stable and whilst I cannot say "I don't know that the van is there" is is a far better tug than the S-max that it replaced.
I'm happy with mine and it returns 44-45mpg solo if driven sensibly and 25-27mpg towing depending on terrain .
I'm looking at changing to the new model when it come on sale later this year
Just come back from a month in the French Alps towing a 1340kg van with a 2011 2.2 diesel CRV auto. Tows like a dream, I should have got one before. Towed up to temps of 28C up all the roads at all speeds depending on the conditions. No adverse heating indications. no warning lights and the temp gauge stayed steady where it normally is (slighly below half mark). Negligible/slight oil consumption. Better than my manual Xtrail and that was good.
Recently chanced from 2.2 diesel Accord to the 2.2 diesel CRV, (its the same engine used in both) and although they both tow well, the CRV seams more stable. The larger diameter tyres and shorter distance from rear axle to towball may help. Both nose weight and max towing weight are higher and ample for my needs.
I have a 2010 crv diesel auto and have just purchased a coachman amara (1500kg mptlm) have been advised by Honda that the spacesaver spare is not suitable when towing and am now trying to buy an 18'' alloy ay a reasonable price. Only towed about 100 miles with the van and fuel consumption was 27 mpg (in Lincolnshire) auto box sometimes hunted between 4th and 5th

Your on the MAX limit of the Auto box at 1500 MPTLM , if you exceed that limit you may damage the transmission . so be careful not to overload your van .
