We have a 2011 Vauxhall Astra 1.6 SRI 16v petrol, we are looking at purchasing a tourer, We have our hearts set on the Coachman Amara 380 two berth,
Would like to know if this combination would work? We havent got much idea, or understanding of the technical data just yet! We would like to know if its possible before we start to persue our dream!
Coachman Amarra 380/2. 2011 model weighs in at 1107kg as it stands and has a maximum allowable weight of 1235kg
The Astra has a kerbweight of 1195kg and a towing capacity of 1200kg.
Without knowing the weights that are plated on the car or whether your driving licence is dated before or after 01/01/1997 we can not be precise about whether the combination is legal or not. However, with a caravan max weight which is greater than the cars unladen weight it would be a very unwise thing to do.

For a licence dated 1997 or later you must add together the plated max weight of the caravan and trailer, if the total is 3500 or less you can tow it. You may even tow a caravan with a MAM greater than the cars unladen mass the restriction was removed in 2013

You really need a heavier car or consider a lighter 2 berth van as your car is not suitable to safely tow and be able to stop with 1235kgs behind it
With out looking in to detail I would think the Astra wouldn' t be upto the job. We brought an amara 380 and love it but had to change towcars, I had a 1.8 petrol seat Toledo which would have been just legal but wanted to change car anyway but had a limited budget as I didn't want to take on finance, was after a passat or mondeo but because of my budget settled for a 2006 2.0 diesel Kia magentis and very pleased with it,have put MAD suspension on back as original like most big saloons was a bit spongy and rode a bit low, well worth the money and have also fitted a diesel tuning box from energy tuning which has improved mpg and makes a much nicer drive
