Does anyone tow with a Meriva 1.6ii Energy. I am using my SWB shogun pinin and am wondering whether to put a tow hitch om the Meriva to try and improve fuel consumption and storage capacity. I have a sprite Europa 450eb.

You may find the Meriva a bit underpowered and the fuel consumption will drop drastically when towing.

I towed my caravan similar laden weight, But it was fairly empty when i bought it. With a 1.6 Montego estate, I went out and bought a big rover before the next trip.

It was too underpowered for my liking.

You also need to consider what maximum weight of your caravan is and what the kerbweight of your car is. Guide lines suggest you tow at 85% of your tow cars weight, however being a Vauxhall owner previously I know that Vauxhall can set lower limits on towing weights. Personally I wouldn't want to tow with a 1.6 petrol, did it with 1.8 petrol vectra and it was dire on hills despite the weights being fine, soon changed it to a diesel

Just had a quick look at cuddles and it shows a 1.6i 2003 as only having a 50kg limit on the towball which may be a problem for you
