Mk3 Mondeo tdci hatchback max gross weight 2025 kg, max train weight is 3700kg , the kerbweight is 1496kg which according to ford is the car plus driver plus 90% of all fluids. The towing capacity from the handbook ( no legal implications just an advisary that says that the car laden to its max weight can restart on a 12.5% slope, which if anyone tried would be illegal since it would e greater than the max train weight ) is 1800kg.
I towa 1450kg hymer with mine and it is the most competent and stsble tow car I ave tried in 20 years if towing which includes several well thought of large 4x4s.

For a licence dated 1997 or later you must add together the plated max weight of the caravan and trailer, if the total is 3500 or less you can tow it. You may even tow a caravan with a MAM greater than the cars unladen mass the restriction was removed in 2013
Mines a MK3 2004 diesel estate and similar to above but my gross vehicle weight is 2100kg, Unladen 1564kg. Train weight 3725kg i think.
Yet my sisters hatchback is 3490kg gross train weight.
So as you can see you need to narrow down your choices.
MK3 130bhp diesel pulls and pulls. I lost my turbo pipe whilst towing. Even with no turbo i managed to get from the M5 to newquay and still keep up with the traffic flow.
31mpg also.
Not ideal. I should have stopped really but, Im like that.
2010 Mondeo 2.0 TDCi Hatchback. Can tow 1800kg even when the car is full.
Stable tow car pulling 1480kg helped by the generous 90kg nose weight allowance for 2008 cars onwards.

You need to check that 1800 figure with the car full. Ford have a habit of giving the towing capacity as a figure which when added to the Max Gross Vehicle weight takes it above the maximum train weight that is plated on the car. Have a look at the vin plate with the weights on it, fords usually just inside on the drivers door frame.

Bill, I have checked. The differences on the car weight plate are 1800kg.
2170 & 3970kg respectively. As your 90kg nose weight has to be included in the gross vehicle weight, you could legally tow a 1890kg trailer, but there is no way I am towing anything that heavy!!!
I've asked so many questions about Mondeos on the site & everyone has been very helpful with replies. I'm not familiar with all Mondeo models but we have a 2.2tdci Titanium x with 6 speed manual. I think I'm right in saying it's 174bhp but could be 176. We pull a Bailey Pageant Provence series 7 & tend to be well loaded. All I will say is, it's the best tow car I've ever had.
