hi can you give me your thoughts on a car  to pull 1500kgs but also decent fuel economy

I use a mondeo 2ltr  tdci 140 bhp to tow my 1500kg Coachman, Top spec car weighs in at 1705 kg making  my outfit an 87% match

I'm hoping to get around 32 mpg on a run to Cornwall next week can do 50+ solo

Another thumbs up for a Mondeo 2.0 TDCi, ours tows our 1480kg Pegasus with no problems & that is with a loaded car & 3 bikes on the roof.

With the bikes on the roof towing I get between 26 & 28 mpg & 50 mpg is possible solo if I am careful. Mine is a pre facelift mk4 so has slightly higher emissions than Bessie's so that may be why I can get quite as good economy.

Hi Zafiral were heading to Treamble Valley at Peranporth fingers crossed the sun might make an appearance...... this rain is driving me nuts at the mo.

Glad to see you enjoying your mondeo, your fuel figures are pretty good considering you've got 3 bikes on the roof as well.

Every trip out with my van has me going over the pennines which is the highest motorway in Britain, this really cocks the fuel figures up so just go off what i get on a long run i,e cornwall. 340 miles. Hopefully this year i should match my old S Max

Kia Sorento, the older models like ours are not the best on fuel but are awesome towcars. Newer version or Santa Fe (which is very similar) are more economical.

You are a bit further down Cornwall than we are, Looe is only just over the border.
We are travelling down on Saturday so we are aiming for a very early start to hopefully get nearly to Bristol by about 8.00 am.
The rain has to stop soon, there can't be much more left in the sky, let's hope the campsites are not too waterlogged.

I live about 3 miles outside of Looe, its been real wet for days here, probably like most of the UK, but it seems its improving atlast.

Gary, unfortunately the day after the above post we got a call from Looe site warning of the state of the ground. With a heavy heart we took the decision to move sites so we are now going to Hillhead at Brixham. As it happens we probably would have been ok, but on Tuesday they were still forecasting more rain. Hindsight is a wonderful thing.

Ah, thats a shame. Hindsite is indeed a wonderfull thing!

Still, Brixham should be just as nice. I like that part of the coast myself and Brixham is a lovely little town.

We were in Looe last Summer so I am sure we will be back soon.

My Honda 2009 CR-V diesel has a max towing weight of 2000kgs, towing just under 30 MPG usually, and is an 85% match for my van.
