Do you really need to stop that close?

Worcester is only 2 hours away. Bristol is only about 3 hours away.

In theory Bristol to Newquay is 3.5 hours. But on a Saturday you could almost double that.

Took my mate 9 hours once from Birmingham to Perranporth.

Generally though your journey is only going to be 6 hours.

That maybe too much for you, But ideally you want to get closer the end of the M5 or even on the A30. Depending where your going of course.

My vans in storage some distance from here, And i have to backtrack after picking it up. But we dont leave the house until after 9am.
10am before we are hitched and on our way.

Still looking to arrive about 4pm. But i dont travel on Saturdays.

Personally worcester and Bristol would be too far away for you and still risk leaving you with a lot of heavy traffic to hinder your journey.

I used to stay on a cl in Taunton think it was £10 per night, But as said above i set off once at 9 am on saturday to Newquay and didnt arrive at the site until 6 pm at night...Gutted to say the least.

So now i set off at around 6pm the night before from Manchester stop at gordino services for a starbucks (wife) then straight onto newquay get to the site at 12/1 pm park in the overnight area wind the legs down and go to bed no nightmare journey, If i get tired there are loads of laybys in cornwall to park.

Trip home is spend all day on the beach (weather permiting) go to the pub for tea back to the site van on and off any time between 8/10 pull on the drive between 2/4 am again nightmare journey done.

340 miles each way

There's one just off J11 of the M5, it's called Briarfields. Come off M5 at J11 southbound and take the first exit off the roundabout in towards cheltenham. go a few 100 yards to the next roundabout & take the first exit. Briarfields is just a few yards along on the left. www.briarfields.net

There's another site just off J13. It's called the Apple tree Caravan & Camping Site. www.appletreepark.co.uk Come off M5 at J13 Southbound & take 3rd exit off roundabout. Go to next roundabout on A38 & take first exit. Pass filling station on the left & site entrance is just up the hill on the left before traffic lights. Both sites are within 2 minutes drive of the M5.

If you run down the A38 from J13 southbound there a host of laybys where you could pull over for the niight. The best one for this in my opinion in about 4 miles from J13 just before the village of Cambridge, it's off the road on the left & within walking distance of a shop and a pub if you require either.

Just continue along the A38 & you'll arrive back at the M5 at J16, simply take 3rd exit off the roundabout & you're back onto the M5 southbound. You'll also have cut out one of the major southbound bottlenecks at the M4/M5 interchange.

Hi we have stopped at Briarfields, it has recently (nov 2011)been taken over by a lovely couple who are getting it better. Lovely shower blocks, great site, easy access to M5, just across the roundabout from Briarfields is a Harvester pub/eatery---great food, lovely place, We stay here in Dec for a couple of nights before we go off to our new year meet--- but our friends often stay at Strencham services- they say it is really good. wherever you go have a safe stay and a good time away. cheers gary
