Hi, anyone got thoughts on roof box versus rear bike rack whilst towing, i am thinking of carrying couple of bikes in semi strip down state in our large roof box instead of the usual rear mounted bike rack, will the roof box significantly hit mpg whilst towing? i am not concerned about the stability as our twin is normally stable and steady. Yes i have investigated a roof mounted carrier but we like the ability to store more stuff in the roof box. Think i am just trying to convince myself as my doubts are minor. cheers jk
I find the roofbox does hit the fuel consumption a fair bit.
Maybe because i fit mine as far forward as i can, So that all the weight is not on the rear suspension.
Roofboxes and the roofbar limits are usually quite low. Ideally bulky lightweight items only.
Looking at the figures you must be very close to your cars limits. 65kg or 75kg noseweight.
1600kg max tow, Caravans 1550kg?
Or is it the Argente at 1700kg???
close to what nose weight? max load ? axle weight ? gross train ? you can reassure yourself my outfit is fine 1250kgs plus 200kgs for stuff of which we usually carry 180kgs yes i weighed it out, carrying over the axles and slightly behind, cars max is 1650 so rest your mind, static noseweight is bang on, we have towed this outfit for seven years(twelve years experience in total) round britain and europe enough of me justifying, my op was about the roof box should of known better but thanks anyway
