We have an Elddis xplore 546 2010 and a ford mondeo 2008 tdci 140bhp and as i cant drive currently due to an operation i was wondering if my wife could tow the van if its total loaded weight is under 3.5t as she only passed 02/98
Just loked at mine although passed in 1986 it says C1 + C1E I had a look at the above info and found I can drive what you have. So check her licence with the above link.
you dont say what type of mondeo your is.
But the weight is the Gross train weight, ie the gross weight of the car and the MTPLM for the van added together, if this is less than 3500kg, shes fine, a 98 licence is a B, the rules changed in april? 97.
your van will be about 1300kg MTPLM, the mondeo is about 1500Kgs KERB, so at a guess you will be fine, but check the handbook for the actual weights.
Check the gross vehicle weight (or maximum allowable mass, MAM) of your car in the V5 logbook and add it to the MTPLM of the caravan (this should be on a plate on the van, or in the handbook). The sum of these two weights must be below 3500kg for a post-1997 B licence. If it's a Mondeo estate then you might be over the 3500kg limit - so definitely worth checking carefully.
