Hi can anyone help please I am going to buy a caravan in the near future my Mazda is a 2000cc 2004 wondering if it can tow a caravan many thanks Marilyn

Hi and welcome to the forum. Does the car have a diesel engine or petrol and is it manual or auto?

If you can provide the necessary details then I can give some figures regarding body weight and engine torque etc.

The 2004 model Mazda 2.0 diesel estate manual has a minimum kerbweight of 1540 kgs. has 136 BHP and engine torque of 229 lbs./ft. The maximum towing weight recommended by the maufacturer for a braked trailer is 1600 kgs. and the vehicle gross weight is 2010 kgs. So if you want an 85% match with the minimum kerbweight it would be around 1310 kgs. and the weight of the vehicle plus the caravan is the gross weight so it gives you an idea what weight of caravan you need to look for. In terms of the brake horse power and engine torque then I would consider this quite adequate actually. So the answer to your question is, yes the car has the capabilty of towing a caravan but there are limitations regarding the caravan weight (MTPLM)..

Its a mondeo under the skin.

As above deally a caravan with a gross laden weight of 1300kg.

If your new to caravanning then the lighter the better.
