Munglie and I are in Abbeville (Somme area) at the moment and the back 'box' of our exhaust has fallen off (to be honest, it became loose so I removed it to stop it falling off.)
Is this something which we NEED to replace immediately or is it something which will wait until we return to England next Tuesday?
I appreciate that there will be some of you here who will be strictly "by the book" but I'm looking for a practical answer ...we can replace this now but I suspect it will take all of our spare holiday cash and leave us broke until we can get back home.
Just sort it when you get back home,I t will be slightly noisier than normal, keep the old bit in the boot and if by a miracle you get stopped just say it fell off an hour ago, or see if there is a scrappy's around you might get a full system or a back box for a few quid then jack the car up and undo the remnants of the old one and slide the new bit on
Has the back box completely rusted through where it attaches to the mid-pipe or is the metal pipe of the back box still in tact? If it is still in tact you could fix a jubilee clip back on to join the two exhaust pipes back together just as a temporary measure till you get home or if it has rusted slightly I think you can buy an exhaust bandage from a motor factors that you can apply also for a temporary fix as well. I think the jubilee clip option would be the cheapest option though if you can re-attach the two exhaust pipes.
