Being failry new to towing as well, this is going to be our 2nd year, I know what Gary means about having to tootle along with the lump on the back & all the old dears in their Morris Minors passing you!! It does get better once you're used to it a bit more. We've ended up doing some fairly long trips , 5hours driving (I know thats not long to some of you who go across the water to Euro land), but it does improve. I've also noticed that my driving in general has slowed down even when I'm not towing as I'm more concious of getting a good MPG from my car for some reason?? Flat cap & slipper to follow I suppose . All you have to do is point out the upside of having a caravan , the ability to go away 8, 9, 10 times a year for very little ££ and the only trade off is getting there!
when i collected my van the person who gave me the talk on how everthing works ,said the most important thing to check on your caravan is that the wheel nuts are tight ,he said that more damage is done in the first few miles as the wheels part company with the van,he even said that alot of times the reason for them falling off is purly spite,so best safe than sorry
the thing with towing a van is you learn to read the road better and take more notice of road / traffic and what is going on far ahead of you , I think it makes most of us better drivers , but thats my opinion
