Just changed from 2004 Mondeo TDCI estate to 2009 Mark 4 Mondeo TDCI Estate.
Have tried my present towing mirrors, which have two top fixings with strap over back to bottom of car mirror, on new car mirrors and they are forcing glass on car mirrors way out of place.
The new car has slightly smaller and rounder mirrors which means the strap is being pulled tighter and I think this is causing the problem.
Has anyone experienced this and can offer me suggestions on the best towing mirrors for the Mondeo?
The best and cheapest mirrors are the ones with the rubbers that pull around the back . I have tried others and they are. No good. And as said I can't believe they are the cheapest.
Sorry I can't remember the make
If the Mondeo is like the Focus then the door mirror shape changed on the later models. I had the Focus Mk II and then the Mk III and although the door mirrors on the later model were rather towing mirror unfriendly I found that the Milenco 'Grand Aero' Mirrors fixed both models after a little adjustment to the top contour of the mirror housing. I would imagine that the Mondeo is very much the same. The Milenco mirrors can be seen on their website in the link below.
There have been many previous threads asking about which towing mirrors are best and each and every time the Milenco Grand Aero mirrors always seem to get voted the best. This is probably due to their versatilty, non vibration due to the aero dynamic shape and clear rear view. After all, it's financially beneficial if you only have to buy towing mirrors once and can use them thereafter if you change your vehicle and although they may not be the cheapest in comparison to others on the market, the fact that you can use them on most vehicles then you of course do save in the long term. I have used mine now on three different vehicles to which they have always clamped on without a problem with just a final adjustment needed.
like the op I find the mirrors with the rubber strap forces the car mirror glass out of position. I've never found this to be a prob as the car mirrors are redundant anyway whilst towing and it only takes seconds to readjust once the towing mirrors are removed.......Mick
Since posting my original question I have had a "play" and managed to fit current tow mirrors, albeit with the two clamps together and the strap round car mirror at an angle and not very tight.
The towing mirrors seem tight enough but unconvinced they would stay in place at 60mph as they are large lorry type ones.
Milenco Grand Aero it is therefore and thanks to all have offered their thoughts.
I have the standard Milenco Areos on my Mondeo & they fit fine. No vibration, the standard mirrors are still usable, I personally disagree that they are redundant. One reason why I hated the 'suck it & see' mirrors.
This is the type I have always used

But not milenco.
I just leave the rubbers on the mirror and leaver them over no problem and very easy and quick I never even have to adjust position. The others that hook over the top I think are very fiddly to fit.
But we are all different .
The only thing I did was to put a bit of tape so that I knew which side was which. . But it is down to what you get on with.
