I am a complete caravan newbie and we are preparing for our first outing next weekend.
Our friend advised us to get a hitchlock for our van.
We have an ALKO 3004 stabiliser on the hitch.
I've had a look on ebay at suitable hitchlocks and have noticed that they have some silver ones at a fraction of the price of the red ones but they dont seem to include the ball (which is no big issue if I can buy it separately).
Does anyone know what the difference is? Are the silvers ones not genuine parts perhaps?
The best hitchlock for the Alko 3004 stabiliser is the one shown in the link and is the best value for money too. The hardened steel bar is about 30mm. diameter so would take some cutting through at least and the yellow body also covers the the 2 mounting bolts as well so a thief can't acces the bolts and dismantle the hitch. I used one with an Alko 1300 stabilser (on my old caravan) but since I changed my caravan that has an Alko AKS 2000 stabiliser I can no longer use it due to the different design (off set handle) so I had to buy the compatible box type instead. I am keeping it though just in case I ever replace the AKS 2000 for a 3004 model as I'm sure that this lock is one of the best with Milenco being a trusted name in the caravan industry.
I'd stick with the Alko hitch lock, I've had 2 locks and a nose weight indicator from Milenco, one lock is in its box, it was so poor I never used it, the wheel lock went rusty (in a few months) and I had to get a locksmith to get it off, and the noseweight gauge just doesn't work, all it ever shows is overload

Want to buy one
I bought the 3004 kit and the alko lock came free with it.
Never used it myself.
We really needed the lock before we set off so played safe and bight the red one that usually comes with the stabiliser when bought as a set
Off now to ask some stupid newbie questions about charging the leisure battery. Let's just say candle light is a beautiful and lovely thing but not for four days in a row.......
Spoke to Alko about the silver hitch lock it is made by the German division and is not available to purchase from Alko web site. It is not Diamond approved so i guess that insurance would be void if caravan was stolen
