Hi all we are thinking of changing our car for a citroen C4 grand picasso 2ltr diesel has anyone got one of these cars if so what are they like for towing thanks Peter.
------------- I am nobody.Nobodys perfect,Therefore am I perfect.
We towed with a 1.6hdi, that has a very low towing weight. As Grampian says, check the towing weights carefully especially if the car is going to be fully loaded as well.
We had a top of the range Exclusive which had self levelling suspension, this might be worthwhile.
We found the car to be very comfortable, the electronic handbrake made hill starts easy when towing.
Personally I wouldn't have another one as ours was subject to several recalls and the dash board messages were a bit worrying at times but no doubt the newer ones have ironed out all the teething problems.
We also tow with a 1.6HDI Grand Picasso, and although it is a comfortable ride, ours has all sorts of annoying electronic problems. Worst of all, we have the EGS semi-auto gearbox which I hate with a passion. Gear changes are horrible and the auto clutch is jerky and unpredictable - maybe ours is faulty (possibly software), but it will cost so much for Citroen to fix that I can't be bothered. We plan to get rid of it as soon as possible.
It does tow our 1150kg van well and it's extremely stable, but the towing limit on the 1.6 is quite low. The 2.0HDI has a 1500kg limit, I think, so should be more versatile.
If you really want one, get the manual transmission, and make sure you get one under warranty!
We had the five seat version which has a higher towing limit than the grand but found it to be aweful on fuel when towing in fact pulling up windy hill on the M62 the computer showed 13 mpg The jeep does better than that...
Fuel consumption on our 1.6HDI Grand isn't bad - around 32mpg towing the van on a motorway run, and 29-30mpg on mixed A-roads and motorways. Solo mpg is around 55mpg on motorway runs. Sadly the decent fuel economy is one of the few things I like about the car...
I know many people are happy with their C4 Picassos, so hopefully someone will be along soon to give the other side of the story!
