Dont understand why anyone would buy any kind of car/caravan/trailor without a spare wheel ?????
dosent matter how good modern tyers are you can not replace it if you havent got one
Bought a volvo s80 with a skinny wheel as a spare. Checked with volvo about towing with one, they said it would be ok on the front but definately not on the back of the car.
Imagine having a puncture on the back , then have to change 2 wheels around with caravan in tow.
Went to local scrappy and bought an alloy with tyre {full size} for £35. Problem solved..
Punctures are very rare nowadays, tyres are far more puncture resistance than yrs ago. I've can't recall when I last had a puncture. Many drivers nowadays would not have a clue how to change a wheel anyway & most breakdown/recovery services would rather uplift a car rather than fix it beside the road.
Having said that, my Berlingo has a full size spare which I rotate across the back regularly, I got 34k miles out of the first set of tyres by doing this. Leaving a spare too long in a wire underslung carrier will damage the sidewall.
Is it ok to tow with these tyres subject to speed and distance limitations?
space saver tyres were only ever intended to get a car to the next garage to repair the tyre.i would not like to tow with one over 10 MPH.the whole unit is out of balance.sure i read somewhere the breakdown people would only fit it on the car if the caravan was left at the side of the road until the repair was done.best to buy a full size wheel.if you have a trailor tent you can buy wheel carriers(towsure) that bolt onto the front or back.
------------- the only silly question is the one you do not ask.
