Well saw a Freelander 2 we liked the look of on the internet, so went to have a test drive and, obviously you know the rest.
Did a good deal and part exed the awful Ford Ka that I've never really got on with - even got them to throw in a full tank of diesel. To cut a long story short, we pick it up on Monday!!!
I'm really hoping for validation on here as to its performance as a towcar. I've done all the checks on noseweight, kerbweight etc. etc. and the car fits the bill but I would love to hear from those who know on this forum what their experience is of the Freelander 2. (its a 2008 2.2 GS TD4 manual).
So excited now, can't wait till Monday when we pick it up.
It will certainly be a better towcar than the Ford Ka.

For a licence dated 1997 or later you must add together the plated max weight of the caravan and trailer, if the total is 3500 or less you can tow it. You may even tow a caravan with a MAM greater than the cars unladen mass the restriction was removed in 2013
Freelander 2 is a good piece of kit, especially compared with their first effort.
Good friend of mine works on them for a living and all things Landrover in general, knows his stuff and thinks highly of the Freelander 2, good choice for a tow car.
We have exactly the same car......LOVE it.
We had a FL1 and couldn't fault it, but the FL2 surpasses that.It tows our 1,500kg swift with ease.

Adopt a rescue, rescue dogs make great pets, don't support puppy farms.
The road can be tough and rough, but what you put in you get back 10 x more.
Yes Gary H, hubby works for LR too...building Discos (not all on his own you understand)
We are not getting shot of the original LR Freelander 1 - this is in addition to. We have to run 2 cars, so thought we might just as well have two Land Rovers!! The new one should pull the van with ease and it has lots of toys to play with...cruise control, parking sensors etc. etc. ...looking forward to reading the handbook and working out how to use it all!! Luxury for us.
According to the logbook it is 1800, checked with the LR dealer. This is still fine for towing our van.
Hopefully we won't have to reverse with the van on the back very often as we have a mover fitted.
Do you find the Freelander 2 to be a good towcar and what's it like on the fuel consumption when towing? It is listed as a combined 38 mpg for normal driving, so we were hoping for about 30mpg when towing. Is this realistic?
24 to 26 mpg will be more realistic towing and holding 60mph, 30 around town with 38 on a run at legal limits. Towing will be a pleasure though, used to have a Discovery TD5, the Freelander 2 out performs it with ease.
