The pressure should be that it doesn't jump out of the sliding bracket when you go over a speed bump etc. but should be quite stiff when you lift it out of the slider by hand. The stiffness helps to reduce pitching (up and down movement) so as long as you can lift it out with both hands then the pressure is about right. I used to use one a few years back which was the 'Breckland' leaf stabiliser but they all operate on basically the same principal.

Feom what I remember the caravan bracket should be 100 mm from the end of the blade and also 100mm above the blade when you fit it ,if you contact bulldog you will find them very helpful and can supply all the info you need on their products

The pressure is actually applied when the centre lever on the stabiliser has been locked down AFTER fitting the leaf spring into the slider by hand on the 'A' frame. If it's not locking down properly (slack with no pressure) then there is a possibility that the friction lining has either worn which requires adjusting or needs replacing completely. See the link for the varaious types of Bulldog replacement friction discs.

http://www.bulldogsecure.com/category/58/1/replacement-friction-discs

BTW... If you search for discs on the net don't spell stabiliser with a 'Z' otherwise it will only give you all the information from America because that's the way the Yanks spell it.

The stabiliser if too much downward force on the Angle bracket & slipper assembly (number 6 on my link)will cause the friction pads to creak and wear quickly. The bar must be easy enough to lift on and off but not too much.

Setting the side movement (torque on the pads)is done like this..

Fit the bar to the car.

Get a set of bathroom scales and and place on the edge of the blade (side)

Now push the blade with the scales sideways.

The force needed should read 60lbs or 27kg..

Slacken or tighten the nuts on number 4 of the diagram.

I have done this a few times through the years on my stabiliser...if in doubt read the part on adjustment of my link..

If these settings are not right the bar will damage the plastic holder on the slipper assembly.
