Yes you can use a fixed tow bar as we have although its a swan neck and it does not interfere with the parking sensors although I did have to buy an additional Honda plug in wiring loom and have the ECU re programmed by Honda for towing

No problems on my 07 CRV. Got a Witter bar fitted part number HN62R and twin electrics. Had to get the bigger ball because of the Alko hitch.Alko towball You can read about that on this site. Have no idea what Neil and Lena are on about ie extra ecu programing !? I had a mobile fitter do the job £300 including vat.

ECU update maybe required to activate the towing sockets on some cars.
Also if the vehicle has stability control etc.
Sometimes it will disable the reverse sensors when towing and reverse/fog lights etc.

When you have reversing sensors fitted it's not the towball that actually interferes with the sensors but where you actually have the 12N & 12S or 13 pin electric socket installed. I have just had a fixed towbar fitted to my Volvo which has reversing sensors but I specified that I wanted the twin electrics horizontally opposed under the bumber and not vertically and haven't had a problem with any interference from the reversing sensors. My old Focus estate which also had reversing sensors had a towbar fitted exactly the same and never had a problem either. I recently had mine fitted by a local company which was £275 fully fitted incl. vat. which was at least £50 cheaper than other towbar fitters in the area.

If your CRV had the Honda plug in wiring loom for towing the ECU has to be reprogrammed for towing and for the Electronic stability control and parking sensors to work correctly .
My car was bought new and I wouldn't use third party tow bar fitters after experiencing shoddy work on two occasions in the past or wiring kits unless there genuine Honda parts as should a fault develop with any additional non Honda wiring the vehicle warranty could be compromised

Except Honda do not make towbars and quite probably outsourced the towbar fitting anyway.
So you do have non genuine wiring and towbar fitted. All the dealer did was plug it in and charge you what they paid + some extra + ECU update charge.

WRONG the towbar had a Honda stamp(plate) attached to it and the plug in wiring loom came in a Honda Box.

No car manufacturer ever make towbars at all or wiring looms, in fact they are all manufactured by independent towbar companies to the EC94/20 specification and then apply the corresponding company logo on whether it be Honda, Ford, Vauxhall, Toyota or any other main dealer. The dealer then charges around 30% mark up price just because it has the car brand name on it. This happens with other vehicle parts too such as timing belts which are all manufactured by Gates then have the corresponding company logo printed on with the company brand mark up price.

Ford ones do the same. But its actually a westfalia towbar.
And a lot of the dealers outsource the fitting. Its cheaper for them to do that sometimes.

Ok I stand corrected either way dealer supplied plug in loom is going to give a better connection than a third party fitter just connecting the wiring with
scotchlocks .
I've had a towbar fitted by a independent firm to a previous new car and they made an absolute mess of the electrics and the tow bar wiring failed after 3 weeks .
So always opt for dealer fit regardless of cost

When I bought my '09 CR-V it originally had a towbar fitted but not a 'Honda approved' one, the dealer removed it and then fitted a 'genuine Honda' one. They said the 'Honda' one had been tested & approved and therefore my chassis warranty would remain intact.
And for the OP, it is a fixed one, the reverse sensors work fine solo. I will have to ask if a software upgrade is possible for towing.

We had our 09 Honda fitted with its towbar at the local 'Indespention' tow centre, brilliant job, and really good aftercare when we went back to get a stainless steel bumper protector fitted, they did it for free, we only paid for the cost of the part.
They are a national company with branches in most large cities, numbers should be online or in the phone book, and prices are very reasonable compared to main dealers.

Did you ask the dealer if they fit them themselves out outsource it?
Would they tell the truth?
They may not want to admit the cheapo firm down the road fitted it for half what they charged you.

Honda tow bar(removable) fitted by dealer is around £700, I believe it is manufactured by Bosal, I have a 2010 CR V and reverse sensors only cause annoyance when reversing with the caravan attached can be switched of from the dashboard switch is marked with a P and is on left side just below steering wheel. Hope this helps
Just another note, the space saver spare is not suitable for use when towing according to Honda.
