We have bought a Sterling Europa 500/C 1999 model with a MIRO of 975kg and MTPLM of 1230kg.

We currently have a Citroen C4 Grand Picasso, 2010 model, 1.6 HDi VTR+ and are looking to change our car in January 2013.

We would ideally like another Citroen C4 but dont know if we are within the limits of safe towing. Another option we have is a Vauxhall Zafira either 1.7CDTi or 1.8 petrol.

Any advice is greatly appreciated.....

Hi Rob, Its a brand new one Im after. Ive been on the website but they only give ranges depending upon engine size which range from 1000kg-1400kg but dont say which engine size is applicable to which weight.

Dont buy a new Vauxhall they have never ending engine problems

we have a 57 plate Vauxhall, Zafira 1.8 petrol and we tow a 6 berth Avondale Dart.  The guy at the dealer told us we would never tow a 6 berth with it, but after looking into ourselves we found that this was a suitable match!  it tow's like a dream and we have taken it over some tricky roads!!

Never had a days problem with it! 

MOA is 1070kg for the Dart 556, most caravans even 4 births have a MOA of close to 1400kg, Avondale Dart 556-6 has a much lower than average weight, 85% weight for Zafira is 1298kg, max caravan load 1300kg. Max train weight for zafira on fully loaded is 1300kg. Avondale manual recommends 1.5l engine for 85% vehicle weight, 1.8l and above can go to 100%. best advice know the requirements, do your specific maths for your own car.

second to that instead of overpowered costly vehicle's, learn to use a rev counter and understand how to use rev counters and ensure best performance from your car at a far less cost.
