I am also in Green Flag and they do recover your van when you break down we paid Recovery Plus and last year my husband became ill and the van got left in Derbyshire and greenflag pick it up on a transporterbed and took it to storage and no extra charge .
Am I missing something? I thought the maximum towing limit was seven metres(23.6 feet) unless you are towing with a lorry. If you do tow with a truck you will have to have commercial vehicle recovery.

ring green flag as they cover our caravan.
They cover your car, if the caravan breaks down they will not recover it. You need mayday for green flag to recover a broken down caravan.
Think you will find they will recover the caravan / trailer and will also take you to your destination and if vehicle not repaired will transport your unit back home
was looking at this last night as i have cancelled the AA from next year as it was getting ridiculously expensive, the co - op do one underwritten by axa assist that will recover your caravan and trailer if required

------------- Bill
For a licence dated 1997 or later you must add together the plated max weight of the caravan and trailer, if the total is 3500 or less you can tow it. You may even tow a caravan with a MAM greater than the cars unladen mass the restriction was removed in 2013
Before you join a club just to take up their breakdown cover, ask yourself which breakdown company you would prefer to be with.
As a former motor mechanic, I went for Mayday (Caravan Club - Green Flag) because contrary to their claims, they make very few roadside repairs and usually seem to recover you to your destination or back home. This suits me as I would rather make my own repair arrangements than have a mobile fitter fitting parts that I don't need or that were overpriced.
On the other hand if your priority is to get the vehicle repaired then you would probably be better with the RAC through the Camping and Caravanning Club.
While my experience of the RAC is poor at best, they do have a better chance of getting you up and running than Green Flag who in my experience don't even try.
To be fair to Green Flag on the three occasions I did call them out and they didn't even open my bonnet, I had diagnosed the faults, first was an alternator failure at 4.30am (I had a spare alternator in work anyway), second was a head gasket failure which was not a side of the road kind of job and the third was a burst heater hose. This could have been repaired roadside however as the engine was hot, I would not have been at all happy about them repairing the hose and topping the engine up with cold water with an engine design prone to cracked cylinder heads as this is a recipe for disaster.

There is two different kinds of cover offered by Green Flag. The Mayday is the Caravan Club Breakdown cover for which you have to be a member of CC. This cover has no restriction on the size of Van.
The Green Flag Breakdown cover DOES cover the car and Van but has restrictions on size of van.
We have an Eriba Van so the Green Flag policy is fine for us but if you have a gin palace unit then you would require Mayday or something similar.
But does it cover the caravan if something breaks and makes it I towable, if you are out in the car will they take you to the site where your caravan is and wait whilst it is packed up and then take you home, if the driver is ill will they recover the car and caravan for you.
Mayday through the CC as does Arrival through the CCCC does all of these things and it is written into the policy, the Standard green flag cover does not promise them, it says that up yo a certain size they will recover any caravan that is attached to a broken down car.
