I have vectra estate which has one of these stupid wheels.   I agree with advice I have been given to change this for a full size wheel for towing which I would keep I caravan. I rang a vauxhall dealer for a price - they only recommend the space saver as a spare and can't advise on whether safe to tow with this!!!   I could take it in so they could price up a spare alloy, but would be couple of hundred quid! It is a early 2009 vectra and tyres (on alloys) are 215 55 r 16.   Where do I find out wheel size for a steel wheel spare? There appears to be some matching alloys for vectra d on eBay, if tyre size is same, will wheel size be ok?

I had the same situation with my Sorento. I only discovered I had a skinny spare when I had  puncture on the M40! I manged to get a secondhand wheel rim, identical to those on the car, from e-bay at a reasonable price, obviously adding a new Michelin tyre bumped up the price but it was well under half the price of what the dealer quoted. These were the people I got the rim from:-

If the tyre size is the same then it wont be an issue.

If the overall diameter is only a few % out you will be OK also.

Ideally you may want an exact match.

Google tyre size calculator.

Say you have 215/50 x 16. You could fit a 205/55 x 16. That will only be 11mm bigger.

Try your local car breakers for a rim then get a new tyre fitted should not cost much.
I did the same for my zafira as it had 16 inch alloys and a 13 inch spare.

It's funny that cars are getting bigger with each revised model but the space available for a spare wheel has reduced.

I would agree with the ebay route, there always seem a lot of wheels or wheel/tyre deals on there.

I put a ruddy great dent in my steel wheel on my Zafira. Got a new steel wheel for around £30 if I remember rightly from the main dealer. Cheap tyre around that and your laughing. Probably even cheaper on eBay. No point in getting an alloy IMO.

I've had a puncture whist towing on a car with a space saver, but it was a front tyre so I figured there wasn't much additional weight on it. Could you not either swap the wheels over this way, or if you only have a short distance to go to home, just get some of that tyre spray stuff?

My 2007 Vectra C estate came with 17" alloys and a space saver. I bought four 16" steelies with 215/55/R16 tyres off an earlier Vectra C from Ebay for £30. Gave one to my father as he has a similar car and sold the other two for £30 the pair, result!

Wheel size is 6 1/2J, PCD 5x110, not sure of the offset.

But any Vectra C wheel should be fine, also some Astra's and Zafira's use the same.
