Until you find a glitch and it takes your through Belgium, France and Ireland on your way from Manchester to Cornwall avoiding the M5.
Always best to try a couple and compare, Just in case.
My old satnav used to say turn left off the main A road, Then turn right after about 1/4 of a mile then turn left back onto the road i just turned off???
Make was saying his tom toms obviously better, Until it told us to turn left up a farmers driveway a couple of mies further on.
I use the AA route planner, but always check it with a map, especially the sections that take you onto B roads. I try to stick to motorways as much as I can even if it adds on a few miles, just make life easier. for me anyway.
We rarely 'plan' a trip as such, as we know in advance where we are going and what route we will take, so don't need to plan which way we are going.
SatNav is probably the most useful item we have acquired over the years, and we still have the same one, a TomTom 5 running on a PDA to give a decent screen size.
Even running overseas, in Europe of the USA we look at where we are going and leave it to the SatNav mostly, we rarely get problems.
I'm with alan29, Googlee maps and street view, so as the satnav guides you in, you can recognise the approach to the site, haven't used a paper map for years!
I know it's an old thread but I came across this route planner today that might help some- you can add length, height, width (as in a lorry) and it calculates best route and even does time. on the mape you can select width restrictions and shows you lay byes, services, truck stops and services.
I did a route from lincolnshire (sleaford) to Weston Super Mare and it gave 6 hours at average of 32mph
As well is two words!
How does a sage know everything about everything? or does he? or does he just think he does?
Remember, if you buy something you bought it, not brought it.
